Farmer Samson Ogbole is an award-winning Farmer and the Team Lead for Eupepsia Place Limited (Soilless Farm lab). With a background in Biochemistry Samson merges his love for farming with science.
At Soilless Farm Lab, crops are planted without soil and protected technology is been used to increase healthy crop production. Soilless Farm Lab also deploy the use of artificial intelligence in their irrigation for precision-based farming.
In one of Farmer Samson Ogbole, interviews with Channels TV, he stated that at Soilless Farm Lab, they grow their crops without soil because they believe food supply shouldn’t be seasonal, after all, hunger is not seasonal. The benefits of soilless farming include no pesticides, weeds and crops that are not affected by weather or seasonal changes.
He further stated that the soil plays 3 roles;
1. Giving structural support to the crop.
2. Moisture retention and
3. Aeration
So to grow crops without soil you have to have an alternative that has the 3 roles of the soil, for example, Rice bran, sharf from rice, coconut coir, vermiculite, perlite from rock, water and a supplementary structure.
