On the 13th of October, 2023, the Vice Chancellor of UNIPORT, Prof Owunari Georgewill, inaugurated the newly established Center at the university’s Choba campus. The project, funded by the World Bank, the French Development Association, the Association of African Universities, and the Federal Government of Nigeria ACE Impact Fund, marks a significant milestone in the advancement of healthcare in the region.
Leading the centre, Prof Daprim Ogaji emphasized its role as a hub for collaborative and interdisciplinary research, fostering a culture of excellence in teaching and learning. “The ACE-PUTOR is designed to facilitate uninterrupted research and learning for both local and international students,” remarked Prof Ogaji. “With state-of-the-art facilities including internet-enabled classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, and dedicated staff offices, the Center aims to become a self-sustaining entity within the university.”
Highlighting the centre’s key strengths in the areas of Public Health and Toxicological research, Prof Ogaji emphasized the uniqueness of the available equipment, particularly in the Clinical Skill Lab and the Digital Skill Lab. “This new facility will offer students unparalleled opportunities to engage in practical, hands-on learning,” he stated.
Expressing his gratitude, Vice Chancellor Prof Owunari praised the conducive environment for learning, teaching, and research that the centre will provide. “The successful establishment of this facility is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our esteemed sponsors,” he remarked.
